KISS – AI-Driven Circular Economy Meets Practice: plastship at FACHPACK and K 2025

Greater efficiency, higher quality, more recycling – this is the goal of the KISS project.
Together with strong industry partners and under the leadership of RIGK GmbH, plastship is working to analyse, optimise, and bring greater transparency to plastic material flows through the use of artificial intelligence.

At the heart of KISS (AI-based qualification, control and optimisation of material flows to close regional resource loops) lies an accessible, data-driven solution for high-quality recyclate use across Europe.

KISS stands for Keep It Short & Simple – and that’s exactly what we aim to deliver: a pragmatic, intelligent solution to the real-world challenges of plastic recovery,

says Andreas Bastian, Managing Director at plastship.

PRACTICAL TECHNOLOGY FOR A CIRCULAR PLASTICS ECONOMY

As part of a publicly funded project supported by Technologieland Hessen, plastship is working alongside PlastCert, RAM and Veridis to develop a modular platform for material qualification. From mechanical testing and optical flaw analysis to the detailed chemical composition of materials – KISS delivers precise data that enables the efficient conversion of used plastics into high-quality recyclates.

A key component of the initiative is the Monitored Materials Database, which provides companies with the ability to objectively compare and evaluate material properties – a powerful foundation for strategic sourcing and circular product development. The database already includes optical, mechanical and sensory properties of numerous materials, offering users actionable insights to improve recyclate quality and consistency.

TRADE FAIRS 2025: EXPERIENCE KISS & MORE LIVE

At FACHPACK 2025 in Nuremberg and the K Messe in Düsseldorf, plastship will be joining RIGK to present current projects and digital tools – including the latest developments from the KISS platform.
Visitors can expect real-world solutions for:

  • recyclate quality assessment,
  • transparent material flow optimisation, and
  • digital networking across the value chain.

We’re showing how companies can already implement future-proof packaging solutions – driven by data, technology and European innovation,

explains Bastian.

  • FACHPACK: 23–25 September, Hall 5 | Stand 101
  • K-Messe: 8–15 October, Hall 7 | Stand 70SU-04

EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW: RIGK WEBINAR ON THE PPWR

Ahead of the autumn trade fairs, the RIGK Group will host a free English-language webinar on 11 September 2025, with plastship Managing Director Andreas Bastian as one of the featured speakers.

Webinar Title: Future-Proof Packaging: How to Close the Loop and Meet PPWR Standards
🗓 11 September 2025 | 10:00–11:30 AM (incl. live Q&A)
💬 Language: English | Format: Online via Microsoft Teams

This inaugural session will explore the challenges and practical implications of the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) – including recyclability, mandatory recycled content, extended producer responsibility (EPR) and evolving documentation requirements.

WORKING TOGETHER TOWARDS A BETTER CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Through the KISS project and complementary services, plastship is advancing data-driven, standardised and practical solutions to increase recyclate quality and circularity.
Early project outcomes show that AI-based analytics, transparent material databases and a connected, collaborative approach can significantly improve the usability and reliability of recycled plastics.
